dbt Labs is looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer II to join our Platform Services teams. In this role you will create and maintain stable, scalable services foundational to the dbt platform cloud product, redesign external APIs to power improved user experiences, and work on cross-cutting, high-scale initiatives such as rethinking core data models and APIs that power hundreds of thousands of dbt run executions per day.

You'll be joining a collaborative team of engineers; as a Senior Engineer II on the team, you will prioritize and tackle problems as they arise, working iteratively with product management, security and QA to deliver a great experience for our dbt Cloud administrators and end users.

Your work directly impacts dbt Labs' mission by expanding the organizations we serve and the data practitioners we reach. You will have an opportunity to flex into a security mindset while bringing your software architecture and programming skills. You will also have an opportunity to mentor and guide other junior engineers across engineering and advocate for platform-focused security.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain stable, scalable foundational services that can be leveraged by other engineering teams, based on solid architectural principles and cross-team collaboration.
• Collaborate with internal partners and product teams to influence the design of our API surface.
• Design and develop reliable, secure, highly available and delightful experiences for both dbt Cloud admins and end users.
• Collaborate with Product Management, UX designers, Security, and Customer Support.
• Work with a variety of programming languages, systems, and technologies, including Python (Django), Go, React, Postgres, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform and Datadog.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience as a software engineer
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field

You are a good fit if you

• Have strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming.
• Have designed and built API-driven applications using REST and/or gRPC for API endpoints.
• Have experience supporting and evolving APIs through multiple iterations.
• Balance speed of delivery with designing scalable, reusable components.
• Are passionate about design and code reviews that help grow the team.
• Are highly motivated and able to work autonomously.
• Are willing to collaborate across teams to aid feature delivery when there are infrastructure-related dependencies.
• Ensure high programming standards by writing unit, functional, and integration tests.
• Have systematic problem-solving skills with strong communication and a sense of ownership.

Nice to have

• Experience with authentication protocols like SAML and OIDC and fine-grained authorization.
• Interest in application-level product security.
• Experience building reliable, mission-critical software for external customers.
• Experience designing and implementing scalable architecture patterns.
• Experience with Datadog or other log monitoring services and debugging production issues.
• Experience working on a distributed team.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: 112,000 - 145,000 Euro
