Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician

Position Type: Contract

Pay Range: $22 – $25 / Hour

Location: Houston, Texas 77030 (Main Campus – Rotation Between Towers)

Shift: Evenings, 2:30 PM – 11:00 PM | 5 Days per Week

On-Call: Not Specified

Equipment: OR Sterilization and Processing Equipment

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)

Certifications

  • CRCST – Certified Registered Central Service Technician (Required)
  • Issued by Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (formerly IAHCSMM)
  • OR
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (Required)
  • Issued by Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution

Project Description

  • Contract Sterile Processing Technician supporting instrument processing and sterilization functions.
  • Responsible for maintaining the highest standards of sterilization, infection control, and patient safety.
  • Processes and sterilizes surgical instruments and medical devices across hospital departments.
  • Rotational assignment across main campus towers to support operational demands.
  • Strict adherence to medical device IFUs, regulatory standards, and hospital protocols.
  • Only candidates interested in contract positions should apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process decontaminated medical devices according to priority and manufacturer IFUs.
  • Receive and inspect instruments from decontamination areas.
  • Perform sterilization cycles and high-level disinfection procedures.
  • Monitor sterilizers and environmental controls.
  • Maintain instrument room cleanliness including biohazard waste disposal.
  • Assemble, inspect, and prepare surgical instrument trays.
  • Maintain accurate sterilization and processing documentation.
  • Perform additional essential instrument room duties as assigned.

Required Skills

  • Knowledge of a wide range of OR instrumentation and hospital medical devices.
  • Ability to operate sterilization and processing equipment.
  • Strong understanding of infection control protocols.
  • Detail-oriented with high standards for quality and safety.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Prior hospital sterile processing experience.
  • Experience working in high-volume surgical environments.
  • Familiarity with compliance standards and accreditation requirements.
