Job Summary

We're looking for an energetic, customer-focused Starbucks Barista to join our team at the George R. Brown Convention Center. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, guest-oriented environment and enjoys creating memorable experiences through exceptional service and quality beverages. You will represent both the Convention Center and the Starbucks brand by preparing handcrafted drinks, engaging with a diverse customer base, and maintaining a clean, welcoming café environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve all Starbucks beverages and food items according to brand and quality standards.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service with a friendly, positive, and professional attitude.
  • Maintain product knowledge of Starbucks offerings, seasonal items, and customization options.
  • Operate point-of-sale systems accurately and manage transactions.
  • Support high-volume service during conventions, events, and peak times.
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of the café, equipment, and service areas.
  • Follow health, safety, and sanitation guidelines always.
  • Restock inventory, rotate product, and assist with daily operational tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth service each day.
  • Responsibilities may be adjusted or expanded as needed to meet the needs of the department and overall operational needs.
Qualifications
  • Previous barista or food service experience preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs. or more.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays and event days.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to learn and uphold Starbucks brand standards.
Physical Demands
  • Standing and walking for extended periods (up to 8 hours or more per shift).
  • Frequent reaching, bending, and stooping to access supplies, equipment, and storage areas.
  • Lifting and carrying items such as milk cartons, coffee bags, and supplies up to 25 lbs. or more.
  • Repetitive hand and wrist movements for tasks such as grinding coffee, tamping espresso, pouring, and cleaning.
  • Operating equipment such as espresso machines, grinders, blenders, and POS systems.
  • Ability to handle hot beverages and work near heat sources, including steam wands and ovens.
  • Clear verbal communication to interact with customers in a noisy environment.
  • Visual acuity to read digital screens, order tickets, labels, and product information.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination for preparing drinks quickly and accurately.
  • Occasional pushing/pulling of carts, bins, or equipment as needed.
