POSITION OVERVIEW
The FS Technician - HVAC is responsible for performing skilled installation, service, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems across a variety of customer and project sites. This role operates with increased independence, technical competency, and accountability for service quality and job completion. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong technical judgment, prioritizes safety, delivers exceptional customer service, and supports the reliability and performance of HVAC systems in the field.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Execute installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment, including air handlers, condensers, heat pumps, ductwork, and related mechanical systems.
Perform electrical work associated with HVAC systems, including wiring, conduit installation, control connections, and verification of electrical integrity.
Conduct advanced system testing and diagnostics to identify root causes of mechanical or electrical issues and recommend corrective actions.
Lead job site setup, ensuring tools, materials, and equipment are prepared, safe, and organized for efficient workflow.
Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, equipment logs, test readings, and corrective actions taken.
Coordinate with supervisors, project managers, and other field personnel to resolve technical challenges, scheduling constraints, and customer needs.
Ensure full compliance with safety protocols, codes, standards, and customer site requirements.
Engage directly with customers to explain findings, ensure understanding of system performance, and uphold service quality expectations.
Support training and guidance of junior or assistant technicians as needed.
Travel to various customer and project locations to support ongoing field operations.
Perform additional technical and operational tasks to support organizational objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Formal technical training or experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, diagnostics, or repair (trade school, vocational program, or equivalent field experience).
Strong proficiency with HVAC hand and power tools, meters, gauges, and diagnostic instruments.
Ability to interpret HVAC and electrical drawings, schematics, and service documentation.
Working knowledge of HVAC system components, electrical systems, control systems, and applicable codes.
Demonstrated ability to work independently, solve technical problems, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights, and operate in confined or outdoor environments.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
OSHA 10 or equivalent safety training; additional HVAC or electrical certifications preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Hands-on HVAC field experience performing installation, service, or repair tasks.
Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostics.
Experience reading and interpreting HVAC schematics, control diagrams, and installation drawings.
EDUCATION
Technical training or coursework in HVAC, mechanical systems, or electrical systems (trade or vocational programs preferred).
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
OSHA 10 or comparable safety certification.
Additional certifications such as EPA 608, HVAC technician credentials, or manufacturer training considered a plus.
