Position Overview:Under the direction of the HART Medical Director and supervision of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Field Supervisor, the HART EMT works in partnership with the HART Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) to form the Response Team. The HART EMT responds to non-emergent social welfare, physical, mental, and/or behavioral health calls by ensuring community member (patient) stabilization, assess injuries and illnesses, provide basic life support. The HART EMT provides support to and may assist the CIS to safely and actively engaging community members in non-enforcement strategies and tactics such as de-escalation, harm reduction, and trauma informed care. The HART EMT will make informed decisions related to best practices in a medical situation, crisis, referrals, crisis counseling, and determine the need for immediate transportation to needed services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Respond to calls for non-emergency community care services via Mobile Computer Terminal (MCT) or radio.
- Assess a patient's condition and determine if the patient is stable or requires EMS
assistance and report assessment findings to the on scene behavioral health specialist. - Provide first-aid treatment and/or basic life support to patients
- Clearly explain procedures to patients and relay information to other responders.
- Transfer patients to designated community care facilities or EMS.
- Work with a behavioral health specialist/social worker to refer patients to community
based resources in an effort to keep them out of the hospitals and criminal justice
system. - Document medical care given to patients in a prompt and effective manner.
- Inventory, replace, and sterilize supplies and equipment after use.
- Maintain and clean service vehicle and station locations daily.

Experience: - At least two (2) years of experience in Emergency Medical Services.
Licensures: - Current Texas Driver's License (upon hire)

General Information Position Type and Typical Hours of Work: - Full Time | Regular
- Typical working hours may fall between 6:00 AM and 10:00 PM, but specific days and times are subject to change based on the needs of the community and the division. The role requires availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed, to support community engagement events and other work-related activities.
Work Environment: - This position involves both a professional office environment and field-based responsibilities. It requires flexibility, adaptability and a balance between office work and outdoor activities with the potential for varying weather conditions.
Physical Demands: - Must be able to lift up to 50lbs, have the ability to stand, bend, and or sit for extended periods of time.
