POSITION SUMMARY

In partnership with the Chief Advancement and Public Strategies Officer (CAPSO), the Director of Institutional Giving (DIG) leads HAWC's institutional fundraising overseeing government, foundation, and corporate grant funding. This role is responsible for the entire institutional giving lifecycle, including strategy, prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, award management, reporting, and renewal. The DIG plays a critical role in advancing HAWC's mission by securing funding, strengthening relationships with institutional funder, and producing timely, accurate, and compelling proposals and reports.

The DIG provides strategic leadership and direction for HAWC's institutional giving ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and supports the agency's continued growth and impact. This role requires strong strategic thinking, exceptional writing and communication skills, and the ability to manage complex funding requirements while collaborating across departments to support programmatic and financial success. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the DIG supervises the institutional giving team and fosters a high-performing, collaborative culture focused on results and accountability.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday - Friday 9AM - 6PM, 8AM - 5PM, or 8:30AM - 5:30PM
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Hybrid position with planned days in office
  • Salary: $115,000.00 annually
Primary Responsibilities

Grant Strategy & Revenue Development
  • In partnership with the CAPSO, develop and implement a comprehensive grants strategy that supports HAWC's short- and long-term revenue goals.
  • Identify, research, and prioritize government and private foundation funding opportunities aligned with HAWC's mission and strategic plan.
  • Successfully achieve annual revenue and performance goals related to grant funding, as determined by the CAPSO.
Proposal Development & Reporting
  • Lead the preparation, submission, and management of competitive grant proposals, including narratives, budgets, and supporting documentation.
  • Oversee the development and timely submission of all required grant reports, renewals, and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure proposals and reports are donor-centric, outcome-driven, and aligned with funder priorities and requirements.
  • Collaborate with program, finance, data, and leadership teams to gather accurate programmatic and financial information.
Funder Relations & Stewardship
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for government agencies and private foundations.
  • Build and steward strong relationships with institutional funders through meetings, site visits, presentations, and ongoing communication.
  • Respond to funder inquiries and requests promptly and professionally, ensuring a high level of stewardship and accountability.
Planning, Leadership & Collaboration
  • Partner with the CAPSO to develop and monitor grant-related revenue goals as part of the annual Development Plan.
  • Work collaboratively with Advancement and Public Strategies staff to align grant funding with broader fundraising campaigns and agency initiatives.
  • Under the direction of the CAPSO, prepare grant-related materials and updates for the Board of Directors and applicable committees.
  • Jointly manages the agency's Grant Management Ecosystem.
  • Maintain accurate grant records, deadlines, and documentation within Raiser's Edge and other tracking systems.
Team Management
  • Manage and support grant-related staff and/or consultants, providing strategic leadership, coaching, and accountability.
  • Establish systems, timelines, and best practices to ensure efficient grant development and reporting processes.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration to support program outcomes, data integrity, and compliance.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Participate in special events and agency initiatives as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree. Masters preferred.

Experience:
  • A minimum of five years of progressive fundraising and institutional giving/grants (government, foundation, and/or corporate), leading institutional giving strategies.
  • A minimum of five years of experience leading a team of direct reports.
Computer Skills:
  • Intermediate Proficiency within Microsoft Office specifically Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experienced in Donor Management/CRM software, Raiser's Edge strongly preferred.
  • Computer savvy and able to learn new applications and systems quickly.
Certificates & Licenses:
  • Texas driver's license with a good driving record; reliable transportation; ability to travel to off-site locations utilizing personal transportation.


Physical Demands

The ability to stand and walk around for extended periods is required. Employees will also need to squat or bend, reach outward or upward to effectively discharge job duties. Job incumbent must be able to lift/carry and/or push/pull up to 40 lbs., if applicable.
