Primary Purpose:

Responsible for handling law enforcement matters throughout the district as enumerated in the S.B.I.S.D. Police Department "Standards of Operations Manual," Board of Trustees Policies and applicable national, state and local laws.

Minimum Qualifications/Skills:

Minimum Education/Certification:

  • A current Texas Peace Officer's license issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.
  • Current and unrestricted Texas Peace Officer's license (Certification) issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE.)
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and 21 years of age.
  • State law requires all reserve candidates to go through the same stringent background check and training as those seeking regular, full-time employment with any Texas law enforcement agency.
  • Valid Class "C" Driver License with acceptable driving record.
  • All qualified individuals MUST complete and submit a TCOLE personal history statement and required documentation: Birth Certificate (issued by government agency NOT hospital) or Certificate of Naturalization; Social Security Card; Driver's License (front and back)
  • Proof of Education: High School Diploma or Transcript, GED Certificate or College Transcript (If transcripts, a sealed original will be required at background investigation stage)
  • DD-214 Military Discharge form (if applicable) (copy of original Member -4 Form)
  • Qualified individuals must pass a drug test, psychological and physical examination as well as a criminal background check. The cost for the medical examination and drug screen is to be paid by the applicant.
  • Qualified individuals must submit to Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility.
  • All individuals must pass firearms qualifications.
  • All individuals must be of good moral character and able to communicate with the public, and be available for shift work, weekends and holidays.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with youth as well as adults.
Experience:
  • Previous Five (5) years of Experience as a Full Time Peace Officer preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities of Reserve Officer:
  • Must respond to an active threat on campus within a timely manner under a variety of circumstances.
  • Patrol school grounds and surrounding area for student, faculty, and community safety.
  • Perform daily safety security perimeter checks of campus property and work close with campus safety officer.
  • Serve as a law enforcement resource officer and assist in the protection of students, staff, and District property.
  • Provide consistent law enforcement presence at critical locations on District facilities.
  • Patrol assigned campus and respond to all calls as assigned.
  • Enforce all local, state and federal laws, as well as enforce all rules and regulations promulgated by the S.B.I.S.D Board of Trustees.
  • Investigate motor vehicle traffic crashes. Investigate and identify suspicious persons and/or vehicles.
  • Assist administration with domestic complaints or complaints concerning unauthorized persons on campus. Assist outside police agencies concerning criminal investigations when requested.
  • Completes and maintains proficiency in all requirements and training for Texas school-based law enforcement.
  • Reserve Officers are expected to complete the same duties as full-time officers which include, but are not limited to; traffic enforcement, patrols, arrests, and assisting other agencies.
  • SBISDPD Reserve Officers have the same training, legal authority and responsibilities as full-time SBISDPD Officer.
  • The position requires a commitment of Sixteen (16) service hours per month. Reserve officers may be required for special assignments and emergencies.
  • Write thorough and accurate incident reports, collect evidence as necessary for supporting criminal investigations and apprehend offenders.
  • Maintain proficiency in operating of computer records management systems, Harris County JWEB, DIMS, JOTS and Mobile Data Terminals.
  • Maintain firearms proficiency.
