Job Description

The Human Resources (HR) Business Partner reports to the Department of Human Resources and provides comprehensive support to employees and leaders across the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM). This role serves as the primary HR liaison for assigned client groups, offering consultation on a wide range of human resources matters. The HR Business Partner collaborates with departmental leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.

The HR Business Partner serves as the main point of contact for client groups on topics related to HR policies, procedures, employment law, and best practices across all core HR functions.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Serves as a consultative Human Resources resource and liaison. Interprets, advises on, applies and disseminates complex policies, procedures, and options to leadership and employees; and recommends best strategies according to established objectives and goals

Additional Information:

  • Hybrid work arrangements may be available. Primary work will be conducted on the UW-Milwaukee campus, with remote work requests considered after the initial training period. Details will be discussed during the interview process.
Minimum Qualifications
  • At least two years of professional experience in one or more human resources disciplines
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field - OR - equivalent professional experience


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience serving as an HR Business Partner or in a similar advisory role within a higher education institution or other complex organization
  • Proven ability to work independently while advising and supporting leadership on a broad range of HR matters
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple human resources disciplines (e.g., recruitment, employee relations, training)
  • Experience analyzing, interpreting, and/or reporting data to support workforce strategy and planning
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience applying employment laws, regulations, policies, and guidelines (e.g., FMLA, FLSA, compensation practices)
  • Coursework in Human Resources Management and/or current HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR)
  • Effective problem-solving experience in employee relations matters
Target Salary Range
  • $68,000 to $72,000 (Final salary offer will be determined based on knowledge, skills, and experience)
