Roadway Engineer (Forensic Engineering)

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Review and applicability of road and waterway city and county code requirements.
  • Evaluate grading and drainage, storm water conveyance, treatment and attenuation systems, potable, fire and sewer systems, erosion control, pedestrian ingress/egress ways and ADA accessibility, vehicular traffic ingress/egress, turn lane design including curb and gutter, paved shoulder, marking, and signing plans, maintenance of traffic plans, and asphalt pavement mix designs,
  • Determine of the cause, origin, and extent of structural building system failures, water intrusions, roof damage, settlement damage, construction defects and building system failures including envelope, roof, wall and glazing.
  • Assignments may include foundation settlement investigations, structural assessments, site evaluations, sub-surface investigations and vibration analysis.
  • Conduct unbiased investigations for various types of clients.
  • Responsible for retention and development of client relations.
  • Prepare oral and written reports in layman's terms that document causes of failure, extent of loss, and recommended remediation.
  • Deliver professional presentations, develop client relationships and promote self to client groups.
  • Ability to support conclusions by appropriate expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred
  • P. E. Registration required through testing
  • Minimum of five (5) years of post-academic civil roadway experience
  • Roadway design/ construction and maintenance of traffic experience
  • Illinois S.E. (Structural Engineer) a plus
  • Must possess strong writing skills
  • Public speaking experience a plus
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and inspect roofs
  • Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and in confined spaces
  • Ability to drive to site locations
