Description:
Directs an ongoing university program to ensure that prescribed activities are carried out in accordance with its mission and/or specified objectives. Prepares short- and long-term goalsand objectives.
- Plans, develops and administers methods, strategies and procedures for meeting program objectives; directs and oversees the daily activities of staff members.
- Prepares and monitors the annual budget and ensures that expenditures are within budget allocation.
- Directs and coordinates personally, or through subordinate personnel, activities concerned with carrying out the objectives of the program.
- Directs the preparation of and reviews reports and records of activities to ensure progress is being accomplished toward specified program objectives; modifies or changes methodology as required to redirect activities and attains objectives.
- Analyzes trends within program areas, maintaining expert awareness of program information and change needs.
- Formulates, implements, and maintains appropriate policies and procedures concerning program administration.
- Manages and administers grant for program, including meetings, communication coordination, scholarships and other operations.
- May prepare or participate in the preparation of proposals to obtain grants from state and federal agencies, and private foundation sponsors.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Education: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed.
Experience: Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience.
Job Description
The Program Director of Rec Sports is responsible for the day-to-day operation and staff supervision of a comprehensive Recreational Sports program that consists of Sport Clubs and Intramural Sports. The Program Director will be responsible for development, long-range planning and assessment, budget, risk management, and maintaining accurate records of participation. This position reports to the Associate Director of Campus Recreation. Evenings and weekends are required.
Job Duties
- Directs the recruitment, selection, supervision, payroll process, and evaluation of staff and students; provide guidance, and is responsible for professional development and training for staff.
- Provides supervision to the Program Manager (Coordinator) for Recreational Sports and assists with the supervision of student staff.
- Provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive Sport Club and Intramural Sports programs; ensures department policies and procedures follow local and state regulations; creates various reports including annual and semiannual reports as needed.
- Assess, evaluate, and mitigate risk for programs, implement departmental emergency action plan, inspect campus program areas and fields, and contribute to the Departmental Safety Committee.
- Maintain records, contract agreements, and sports equipment.
- Responsible for scheduling and coordinating departmental programs; consults with and responds to participant questions and concerns.
- Develop, plan, and implement long range strategic plans and assessment of student development, learning outcomes, evaluations of programs, services, and staff.
- Develop program budgets, monitor expenses and revenue goals, and identify opportunities for fundraising, sponsorship, and grants to support programs and events.
- Collaborate with campus partners and academic units to develop and implement programs and events that contribute to student success.
- Perform other job-related duties as required.

Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Physical Education, Sports Management, Recreation, or related field. Master's degree preferred. Minimum requirements include 3-years of direct experience in intramural sports, sport clubs or family programming progressive experience in a university setting, supervisory experience of full time staff, and direct experience in the management of sport clubs and intramural sports.
