For our World Triathlon Corporation , we are seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Operation Manager - Trail Running - UTMB

JOB SUMMARY:

UTMB North America is seeking an experienced Operations Manager to lead planning, on-site execution, and

post-race evaluation for UTMB World Series trail running events across North America. This role ensures

operational excellence, safety, and world-class runner experiences while supporting Race Directors, managing

event logistics, and collaborating closely with internal teams and external partners.

What You'll Be Doing

Step into a role where no two days are the same, and your impact is felt far beyond your desk. You will:

Event & Course Operations:

  • Plan and execute all operational elements of UTMB NA events, ensuring safety, quality, and
  • consistency. Follow the UTMB global standard.
  • Develop event operational plans, timelines, medical and safety protocols, and logistics workflows.
  • Lead course creation and modifications using mapping tools (ie - CalTopo).
  • Produce GPX files and integrate course data into websites and runner-facing materials.
  • Estimate pace windows, staffing needs, aid station placement, and operational timing based on terrain
  • and experience.
On-Site Event Leadership:
  • Serve as the senior operations lead during event week.
  • Oversee venue buildout, course marking, start/finish operations, aid stations, command & compound.
  • Manage Race Directors, crew, volunteers, vendors, and safety teams.
  • Make real-time decisions regarding weather, safety, and course changes.
Post-Race Evaluation:
  • Lead breakdown and load-out logistics.
  • Conduct operational debriefs and compile post-event reports.
  • Coordinate inventory, equipment maintenance, and budget reconciliation.
Leadership & Financial Management:
  • Mentor and support Race Directors and event crew; build high-performing teams.
  • Develop and manage event budgets; control expenses and vendor costs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Partnerships, Finance, Medical, and Volunteer teams.
Safety, Risk & Compliance:
  • Oversee risk mitigation, emergency planning, incident management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Work with land agencies and local authorities throughout planning and event execution.
Requirements

What You Bring to the Team

We're looking for someone who doesn't just tick boxes, but thrives in our fast-paced, global environment. Ideally, you have:

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 5+ years in endurance or outdoor event operations (trail/ultra experience strongly preferred).
  • Strong skills in course design, mapping tools, GPX workflows, and route planning.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing event crews, contractors, and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project-management abilities.
  • Ability to work in remote, rugged outdoor environments and travel frequently.
  • Budget and vendor management experience required.
  • Wilderness First Aid/CPR preferred.
