Competitive Salary and Attractive Benefits

Annual Base Salary for newly appointed BPAs varies per grade, ranging from $49,739 to $89,518, depending on duty location and experience. A fully trained BPA may be eligible for an additional 25% of base pay under the BPA Pay Reform Act of 2014. This position offers a clear career ladder, advancing through grade levels without the need for reapplying.

BPAs enjoy a comprehensive array of federal benefits, including health and dental insurance, a generous leave program, and participation in a retirement plan similar to a traditional ROTH 401(k).

*Recruitment Incentive* Earn up to $20,000 with bonuses at various stages of your career, particularly for those accepting prioritized locations.

*Retention Incentive* Potentially qualify for up to $40,000 distributed over the first four years.

Key Responsibilities

As a Border Patrol Agent, you will play a vital role in protecting the American people by:

  • Detecting and questioning individuals suspected of violating immigration and custom laws.
  • Preventing and apprehending undocumented individuals and smugglers through surveillance and tactical operations.
  • Interpreting physical evidence related to illegal entries and contraband.
  • Conducting patrols, and performing transportation checks and vehicle inspections.
  • Utilizing a variety of government assets for patrolling duties along international borders.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GL-5 grade level with:

  • One year of general work experience demonstrating decision-making and composure in high-pressure situations; or
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; or
  • A combination of relevant experience and education.

For the GL-7 grade level, you must have:

  • One year of specialized work experience in law enforcement, analyzing information, and making decisions under pressure; or
  • A bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement or one year of graduate-level education in a related field.

Additional Requirements

  • U.S Citizenship is mandatory.
  • Primary residency in the U.S. for at least three of the last five years.
  • Must be under 40 years of age at the time of selection.
  • Must undergo continuous training, including the U.S. Border Patrol Academy.
