Description:

Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT)

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated Civil Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join a growing multi-discipline firm that provides both construction and engineering design services. This role will support stormwater, septic, and small-scale civil site development projects for commercial and light industrial applications. The EIT will work closely under the mentorship of a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with the expectation of developing toward PE licensure and increased technical responsibility over time.

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career civil engineer to gain hands-on design experience, exposure to permitting and fieldwork, and long-term professional growth within an integrated engineering and construction environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of stormwater management systems, septic systems, and minor civil/site development projects.
  • Support preparation of grading plans, drainage calculations, reports, and stormwater control layouts under PE supervision.
  • Help ensure project designs comply with local, state, and federal codes and permitting requirements.
  • Participate in site visits and field inspections to observe construction progress and support implementation of designed systems.
  • Coordinate with internal team members, including drafters, project coordinators, and construction personnel.
  • Communicate with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies alongside senior engineers.
  • Utilize AutoCAD and related design software to develop and revise engineering drawings.
  • Learn and apply best practices in stormwater and civil engineering with the goal of progressing toward independent responsibility and PE licensure.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
  • Proficiency or working familiarity with AutoCAD; willingness to learn additional design and analysis tools.
  • Strong willingness to learn, take direction, and grow under the mentorship of a licensed PE.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Long-term interest in pursuing Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
