Accounts Payable & Payroll Clerk

Location: Spring/Greenspoint (77060)

Compensation: $28$30/hour

Employment Type: Temporary (Maternity Leave Coverage)

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounts Payable & Payroll Clerk to support our accounting team during a temporary maternity leave assignment. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in QuickBooks, a solid understanding of accounting principles, and hands-on payroll experience. This role plays a key part in maintaining accurate financial operations while delivering excellent internal and external customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Process invoices, bills, and incoming payments in accordance with company policies and procedures
  • Perform daily A/P functions including verifying, classifying, computing, posting, and recording transactions
  • Reconcile the accounts payable ledger to ensure accurate posting of payments and expenses
  • Monitor due dates to ensure timely payment of vendor invoices
  • Research and resolve invoice discrepancies, purchase order issues, and payment inquiries
  • Maintain detailed and organized vendor files
  • Communicate with vendors regarding billing questions and payment status
  • Review, verify, and enter employee expense reports
  • Reconcile company credit card statements and confirm proper documentation
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as filing, data entry, and document scanning
  • Prepare and send FedEx packages as needed
  • Provide support with additional accounting tasks and special projects as assigned

Payroll

  • Process new hire paperwork and set up employees in Paycom
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records
  • Receive, review, and enter employee timesheets into Paycom
  • Update employee information including direct deposit changes, address updates, pay rate adjustments, and other payroll-related changes
  • Support timely and accurate payroll processing

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (QuickBooks Desktop strongly preferred)
  • Solid understanding of debits/credits, journal entries, and general corporate accounting principles
  • Previous experience as an Accounts Payable Clerk, Payroll Clerk, or similar role
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable procedures and best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to perform accurate account reconciliations
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Experience with online banking platforms
  • Sales tax knowledge a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
