Position Overview:

We are looking for an experienced Calibration Technician with additional biomedical equipment responsibilities. This role is responsible for performing calibrations, verifications, preventive maintenance, and basic repairs on a wide range of test, measurement, and biomedical equipment both in the laboratory and at customer sites.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while representing the company in a professional manner. This position requires extensive travel (up to 80%) to customer locations to perform onsite calibration and biomedical equipment support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

General Calibration Responsibilities
  • Perform calibrations on a variety of test and measurement equipment in accordance with documented procedures, ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, and manufacturer specifications.
  • Interpret calibration procedures, datasheets, and technical manuals to correctly set up and execute tests.
  • Verify measurement results, make necessary adjustments, and ensure equipment meets specified tolerances.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs of tools, gauges, and instrumentation as needed.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and legible calibration records, certificates, and supporting data.
  • Utilize calibration management software (as applicable) for recording results, due dates, and traceability information.
  • Perform control charting, repeatability, and reproducibility studies to support measurement assurance and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of calibration procedures and work instructions.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing records, demonstrating methods, and answering questions about calibration processes.
  • Provide training and guidance to new personnel and assist peers as needed.
Biomedical Equipment Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM), safety checks, and performance verification on biomedical and patient-care equipment (e.g., vital signs monitors, infusion pumps, defibrillators, ECG/EKG, pulse oximeters, electrosurgical units, NIBP devices, etc.) according to manufacturer specifications and applicable standards.
  • Conduct electrical safety testing on medical equipment using appropriate test instruments (e.g., safety analyzers, patient simulators, NIBP simulators, SpO₂ simulators).
  • Document all biomedical work performed, including test results, parts used, and actions taken, in the designated system (e.g., calibration software or CMMS) to ensure full traceability.
  • Troubleshoot basic equipment issues and perform minor repairs or adjustments within scope and competency; escalate complex problems when necessary.
  • Coordinate and communicate with clinical/biomedical staff at customer sites to schedule work, minimize downtime, and ensure equipment availability.
  • Assist customers with locating, tagging, and tracking biomedical equipment that is due for PM or calibration.
  • Maintain proper handling, care, and transportation of customer medical equipment and test instruments during onsite visits.
  • Follow infection control, safety, and facility-specific requirements while working in clinical and hospital environments.
Travel and Customer Interaction
  • Travel up to 80% of the time to customer facilities for onsite calibration and biomedical services (may include local, regional, and occasional overnight travel).
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times, maintaining a strong customer-service focus.
  • Communicate clearly with customers regarding work performed, results, recommendations, and any issues impacting equipment availability or compliance.
  • Assist in identifying additional customer needs and opportunities for expanded services.
Quality and Continuous Improvement
  • Follow all departmental procedures, process documentation, and quality system requirements.
  • Actively participate in identifying risks and opportunities for improvement related to calibration, biomedical services, and customer satisfaction.
  • Support initiatives to improve efficiency, turnaround time, quality, and overall customer experience.
Requirements
  • Military training or experience (PMEL, TMDE, or Electronics) or a degree/certificate in electronics, biomedical equipment technology, or a closely related technical field; or equivalent work experience and training.
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial, military, or hospital laboratory/biomedical experience preferred.
  • Experience calibrating several disciplines of test and measurement equipment such as:
    • Flow
    • Electrical
    • Temperature
    • Pressure
  • (Preferred) Experience working with biomedical equipment, patient simulators, and electrical safety testers.
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and general quality system requirements.
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and listening skills.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), internet research, and data entry.
  • Experience interacting with customers in a courteous and professional manner and providing an excellent customer experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be able/willing to travel up to 80% of the time, including some overnight trips.
