Job Summary/Purpose

This position designs, implements, and maintains complex network infrastructures across the organization, ensuring performance, security, and scalability of the enterprise data network environment.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end lifecycle of network infrastructure: design, deployment, performance tuning, proactive maintenance, firmware upgrades, and lifecycle management.
  • Provide expert analysis of proposed infrastructure changes, including impact and cost.
  • Develop strategic and tactical plans for network expansion (cloud, SDN, routing, switching, load balancing, mesh networking, wireless technologies) across data center, corporate, OT, and WAN environments.
  • Serve as Technical Mentor and SME for junior engineers; support skill development and project coordination.
  • Support leadership in emerging technology opportunities; advise on impact on existing environments.
  • Capture business capability and functional requirements; create IT‑Networking roadmap.
  • Maintain understanding of networking technology needs; visit business units to assess satisfaction and opportunities.
  • Participate in installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, optimization; troubleshoot at physical, data, control plane, higher‑order layers.
  • Create and maintain implementation plans and documentation for network configuration, mapping, processes, service records.
  • Oversee and implement technology upgrades, equipment, hardware, software.
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, standards.
  • Lead resolution of complex technical problems via coordination with IT personnel, customers, vendors; develop policies, procedures, training for network administration and disaster recovery.
  • Coordinate with vendors, outsourcers, contractors for network products/services.
  • Respond as Data Network representative in on‑call 24x7 rotation for emergent issues across Corporate, OT, and Metering/Distribution Automation environments.
  • Work with Business and Project Management to review strategies, maintain requirements, validate delivered solutions.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum Education Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
    • Master's degree is a plus.
    • Additional Technical certifications or professional licenses are a plus.
  • Minimum Experience Required:
    • 8+ years relevant networking experience; 5+ years solution design experience.
  • Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of network technologies, protocols, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, management tools, packet capture, troubleshooting tools.
    • Routing and switching technologies; network security technologies.
    • Proficiency in OSPF, BGP, IS‑IS and other networking features (NAT, ACLs, multicast, VLANs, spanning tree, spine‑leaf).
    • Experience with NERC CIP preferred.
    • Strong IP addressing design.
    • Strong verbal and written communication.
    • Documentation of business requirements and technical solutions.
    • Financial management of project deliverables.
    • Technical lead experience on major implementation projects.
    • Cloud networking and automation/scripting tools (plus).
  • Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Distribution Automation assets (DNP, PI Vision, SCADA, Engineering Design).
    • Advanced technologies (MPLS, VRF, BGP, SDN, Cloud Networking).
    • Analytical and data analysis skills.
  • Preferred Certifications:
    • Senior IT Consultant – Network Professional/Expert (e.g., CCNP/CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE).
    • Cloud certifications.
