SUMMARY

The Lower School Literacy Specialist is responsible for assisting with implementing the Student Support program. They provide support and literacy-based services to students; collaborate with the Learning Support Specialist to support students' learning needs in the classroom; develop and implement prevention strategies; assess students and provide feedback to teachers; monitor student progress; coordinate tutoring schedules; collaborate with the Lower School Learning Support Specialist, teachers, and administrators.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists with implementing the Student Support program.
• Collaborate with the Learning Support team, teachers, and administrators to develop literacy-based services for students.
• Collaborates with the Learning Support Specialist to support students' learning needs in the classroom.
• Assess students' reading and writing levels and develop and implement prevention strategies to support their continued growth in those areas.
• Collaborate with and provide feedback to teachers regarding student progress at regular intervals.
• Regularly monitor student progress.
• Coordinate student tutoring schedules; liaise with teachers and communicate with parents about tutoring schedules.
• Maintains necessary records and reports ensuring confidentiality of students and their families.
• Collaborate with the Lower School Learning Support Specialist, teachers and administrators.
• Assist faculty with duties (i.e., lunch, carline before or after school).

• Required to walk; stoop, kneel or crouch; reach with hands and arms
• Generally, the job requires 40% sitting, 30% walking, and 30% standing
• The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 15 pounds

• Bachelors or Advanced degree in education, diagnostic interpretations, special education with a certification in academic language therapy (CALT).
• Experience with interpreting and applying accommodations from the results of psycho-educational assessments
• Highly knowledgeable in best practices of instruction, differentiation, and assessment
• Experience facilitating a learning or academic support program
• In-depth knowledge about learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and ADHD
• Highly knowledgeable of child development with expertise in needs unique to Lower School-age students; experience working with students in grades PK-5.
