Mechanical Engineer II Job Description



Our client is a leader in the development and supply of Single-Point Mooring (SPM) systems and are engaged in research involving new and improved tanker mooring systems and associated components. Projects range from preliminary design studies to major engineering, fabrication, and procurement projects that include installation and commission. Projects include marine terminals for product import / export, turrets, tower yoke and spread moorings for tanker-based floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO / FSO) systems installed in water depths ranging from 30 feet to 5,000 ft.



The Mechanical Engineer creates and reviews mechanical equipment designs, drawings, and specifications involving existing technology or applications. They work on segments of broader or more complex projects and ensure that projects meet specifications, standards, and performance requirements within their area of expertise.





DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Create drawings, specifications, and related documentation for existing technologies or applications, ensuring assignments meet standards and performance requirements within the area of expertise.



Use CAD/CAM and database systems to develop layouts, analyze designs, evaluate equipment systems, and generate new equipment designs.



Prepare documentation, communications, and engineering specifications, ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures related to engineering functions, labor reporting, and systems reporting.



Conduct analysis using both classical hand calculations and finite element analysis to ensure designs meet industry-standard stress allowables and service life requirements; make recommendations and develop alternative solutions as needed.



Test and evaluate prototypes and models to determine design limits and identify necessary improvements; prepare test and closure reports for assignments.



Prepare reports, correspondence, procedures, specifications, and technical calculations; develop technical data and papers for sales personnel, customers, and publications, demonstrating strong internal presentation and report writing skills.



Assist and/or review the work of drafters, designers, and less experienced engineers; help prepare project plans, schedules, budgets, and status reports.



QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:



Qualifications & Experience:



Bachelor's degree in engineering required; Mechanical Engineering preferred.



35 years of experience in a similar role.



Experience creating or reviewing production manufacturing drawings, including weldments and machining; GD&T experience is a plus.



Experience with hydraulic systems such as HPUs and winches is an advantage.



Experience designing mechanical equipment based on functional requirements, stress analysis, materials selection, manufacturability, serviceability, and installation interface requirements.



Proficient in classical analysis methods and in writing equipment specifications.



Understanding of, or experience with, finite element analysis (FEA).



Key Skills:



Strong command of the English language; highly proficient in both spoken and written English.



Strong knowledge of SolidWorks and AutoCAD for 3D/2D part and assembly modeling, layout, and design.



Basic understanding of internal economic factors affecting assigned projects.



Awareness of trends and economic conditions impacting the technical field.



Working knowledge of:



o Specific technologies, procedures, products, and applications.



o At least one relevant product line within the industry; exposure to other product lines and some knowledge of competitor products is a plus.



Demonstrated ability to:



o Create functional and cost-effective designs that meet specification requirements with supervision.



o Generate new equipment concepts based on project requirements.
