Director, Advising, Career & Transfer - South Campus

FUNCTION: Provide leadership to assure that advising, career and transfer services are leading edge and adhere to the highest standards of quality. The function of the Director is to supervise Program Advisor Coordinators, Promise Coordinator, and Career & Transfer Coordinator to ensure consistency and student success. Essential Job Functions:

• Supervise Program Coordinators, Promise Coordinator and Career & Transfer Coordinator to lead advising, student success initiatives, retention, career, transfer, and completion activities.
• Collaborate with counterparts to ensure consistent and uniform application of all functions, processes, and services within Advising, Promise, Career & Transfer across the College.
• Provides strategic and operational leadership and accountability for the College-wide delivery of high-quality and high-impact advising and career services, including academic planning; transfer and employment planning; career exploration and decision-making; academic progress monitoring and interventions.
• Ensures staff knowledge of, and institutional compliance with, federal/state/College regulations, policies, and guidance related to advising, career and employment services. Supports accreditation standards documentation and reporting. Communicates the impact of potential legal or regulatory changes that impact the College.
• Interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate staff through the performance management system. Make appropriate staffing recommendations in accordance with College policies and procedures.
• Oversees, analyzes, and makes budget decisions in alignment with College strategy, values and priorities. Forecasts funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies. Approves expenditures and implements budgetary adjustments as appropriate.
• Monitor retention interventions that address the characteristics and needs of a varied population.

Additional Job Functions:

• Facilitate timely, professional communication and problem resolution strategies with students.
• Consult and collaborate with the Dean of Student Advising to plan, implement, and evaluate the plans and services of the campus through data analysis. Submit monthly and annual written reports including professional improvement and growth activities.
• Represent SJC with outside educational institutions, internal departments, and professional organizations. Serve as department liaison and on campus/college committees as requested.
• Communicate with students to resolve issues related to educational planning and counseling.

• Maintain a personal and professional commitment to the college values and the success of SJC and its students.
• Must be team-oriented with the ability to work well with other staff and faculty members in the development and administration of programs within Student Advising, retention, career, transfer, and completion as well as throughout the college.
• Excellent oral & written communication, interpersonal, organizations and presentation skills as well as possess personal computer literacy.
• Be knowledgeable of and responsive to FERPA law and regulations.
• Ability to manage numerous tasks simultaneously as well as develop new projects and programs with little supervision.
• Ability to safeguard sensitive and/or confidential information from intentional or unintentional disclosure.
• Ability to meet deadlines for assigned reports and projects.
• Ability to interview, select, train, supervise, and evaluate personnel.
• Ability to provide feedback, support, and encouragement to staff members.
• Ability to perform all the essential functions of the position.

Required Education:

• Master's degree in Counseling or related discipline from a regionally accredited college/university required.
• 2 or more years of supervisory experience.

Required Experience:

• 5 or more years of experience providing various modes of educational planning & counseling in a community college system.
• Experience in educational planning and academic advising, student success and retention.
• Knowledge and experience with administering and evaluating college-level assessments, including computerized tests.
• Experience with creating and fostering student success, retention and completion.

Preferred Experience:

• Budget management experience is preferred.
• Knowledge and experience with Banner Student Systems or other student database software systems preferred.

Salary Grade: 120
